Durell Glispie, 82 of South Bend, IN., departed this life on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at his home. He was born to the parents of William Glispie and Virrader O’Brient on May 15, 1935 in Point Pleasant, Missouri.
Durell attended school in Poplar Bluff, MO. He joined the rail road in 1953. In 1956 he moved to South Bend, IN. On December 19, 1958 he wed Ora Mae Bates.
Durell loved to stay busy and work. He held many jobs until they closed, Clark Equipment, Mastic and Janco. His part time work was plowing snow and cutting grass.
Durell had an active life after retirement. He sponsored a winning pool league for several years and a softball team. He was active in Knights of Pythons and a member of the Fellowship tour bus.
Durell leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 59 years Ora Mae Glispie, siblings, Estella Murray, Joyce Evans, Derescea Nelly, Brenda Allen, Dorothy Lee Connor, one brother, Steve Glispie, children, Diane Jones, Ellen Harris, Everett Brown, Carlos Craig, Sr., grand children, SheriFoster, Puchea Witherspoon, Valisha Johnson, Carlos Craig, Jr., Jana Craig, Naja Craig, Ann Marie Jones, Anthony Jones, 10 great grandchildren, one great grandchild, one aunt, Clark Thornton along with a host of nephews, cousins, nieces and friends.
Durell was preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Wallace, his parents, William Glispie and Virarader O’Brient, Fairy Rose Thomas, Alfredda Penson, R.L. Glispie, Jimmy Glispie, Willie Lee Glispie and Ricky Glispie.
Durell loved his family in his own way and will be truly missed.
Services will be on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Bethlehem Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m., with viewing from 11:00 a.m., to noon.
