Mrs. Helen B. (Brown) Topps, 77, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister went home to be with the Lord at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
Helen was born in Cameita, MS., on June 14, 1940 to Paul and Mamie (Horton) Brown who both preceded her in death along with her step-son, Roosevelt Topps, Jr., two brothers, Hudson and Paul Brown, four sisters, Maggie Brown, Mozell Brown, Minnie Eva Ross and Doris Adams, her daughter in law, Gloria Topps.
Helen moved to South Bend, IN., in 1965 and united in holy matrimony with Roosevelt Topps, Sr., on July 10, 1965. She worked as a head cook for 32 years at A&W Chauncey’s Restaurant. She was a member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church for 52 years. She served on the Birthday Club and in the choir for 25 years. Her passions were cooking, baking, praying and reading the bible. She also enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 53 years, Roosevelt Topps, Sr., a daughter, Barbara (Melvin) Easton of South Bend, IN. and a step-daughter Debbie Topps of Los Angeles, CA., two step-sons, Larry Topps of South Bend, IN., and Glen Topps of Atlanta, GA., seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her sister in law, Shirley Brown of Chicago, IL., along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Helen B. Topps will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Viewing will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m., to noon.
