SOUTH BEND - On March 25, 2018 Our Heavenly Father called home one of Earth's Angels, Iola H, Groves.
Iola was born January 5, 1933 to Bettie B. O'Bannon and Walter Harris in Jackson, Mississippi.
Iola attended Holy Ghost Elementary School in Jackson, Mississippi, graduating high school from Buchanan, Michigan.
In 1952 Iola became a member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member, a Sunday School Teacher, and a choir member.
In 1952 Iola gave birth to a son, Vernell Groves.
Iola retired from St. Joseph Hospital, and as part of her devotion to her community, Iola was a Foster Grandparent for Real Services. Iola's most enjoyable pastime was cooking.
Iola leaves to cherish her memory a son, Vernell Groves of South Bend; three grandchildren, Reginald Groves of Arizona, Kelli (Padraiq) Brien of South Bend, and Alexaundria (Jaimes Jr.) Monroe of South Bend; five great-grandchildren, Anthony Warren, Meagan and Abigail Brien, Ayden and Ari Monroe, all of South Bend, Indiana; three sisters, Amie Francis of Buchanan, Michigan, Christine (Garfield) Hubbard of Columbia, Maryland, and Rose (Carlos) Orlando of Riverside, California; two brothers, Hezkiah (Thelma) Harris of Chicago, Illinois and William (Helen) Harris of South Bend, Indiana, and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bettie B. O'Bannon; her father, Walter Harris; and brothers, Walter Harris Jr. and Robert Harris Sr.
Services will be at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church TODAY, Friday, March 30, 2018 at 12:00 p.m., with viewing from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
