Larry Eugene Hill, 85, entered the heavenly realm on May 5, 2019 at 3:30 a.m., at Golden Living Center in Mishawaka, Indiana, where he was a resident. He was born in South Bend, Indiana, on May 15, 1933 to O’Neal and Addie Mae Hill.
He was educated in the South Bend School System and graduated from Riley High School. While at Riley he played basketball, football and baseball. He later joined the United States Army and became a Paratrooper. After being Honorably Discharged, he came back to South Bend and married. To this union he fathered five girls.
He spent many years working in Gary, Indiana, in the steel mills. He then came to work at Studebaker Industries in South Bend. He was a spokesman for the Model Cities program. He later worked as a Security Officer for a variety of businesses in South Bend, including Kevin’s on the Hill, an upscale nightclub. Before his retirement he was employed as a Park Ranger for St. Joseph County.
He had a fondness for Casinos and Poker was his game of choice. He loved horses and horseback riding. Solomon was his horse and he rode him as often as possible. He was a diligent marksman and taught his daughters the art of safely handling a firearm. He loved baseball and played in a local league.
Cherishing his memory is his wife of 26 years, Jo Ann Hill; daughters: Brenda Hill of Michigan, Vanessa A. Hill, Pamela J. Townsend (Earl) and Sheila R. Stokes (Tommie), all of South Bend, Indiana, Kathy L. Kirkendoll of Virginia, Terri Lynn Haskins of Texas and Tonya U. Wiggins (Carl) of New Jersey. He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley A. Davis; and a brother-in-law, William Davis both of Gary, Indiana; a son-in-law, Terry Patillo; a loving niece, Addie M. Hackney (Maurice); and an aunt, Dorothy Hill of Smyrna, Georgia.
Preceding him in death was his father and mother, O’Neal and Addie Mae; a brother, Albert; sister-in-law, Berniece; an uncle, William; and step‑daughter, Tracy L. Patillo.
