Mrs. Mae Nellie Redding, 75, of East Hively Avenue, Elkhart, IN., went home to be with the Lord at 8:49 p.m., on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, IN.
Mae was born October 1, 1942 in Turrell, Arkansas to the union of Andrew & Ether (Gambe) Thomas. She attended Central High School in Elkhart, IN, and graduated from Indiana University South Bend where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She went on to completed several hours towards her Masters Degree in Education. She taught at Monger Elementary School, Head Start and retired as a substitute teacher. Mae married Frederick Douglas Redding on September 2, 1962.
Mae was a member of the Minority Teachers Association and a faithful member of Agape Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School Classes for several years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she loved her family and cooking. She also enjoyed family reunions, cookouts, spending time with family and friends. She loved reading and her favorite author was Danielle Steel.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents; Andrew and Ether Thomas, a son; Frederick Douglas Redding, Jr., brothers; James Thomas, Jesse Gamble and Melvin Thomas, sisters; Annie (McKnight) Whitted and Marcella Furlow.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband; Frederick Douglas Redding, Sr., her children, Antoinette Redding, Jeffrey Jermaine (Jennifer) Redding and Ayana Lanette Redding, grandchildren; Destany Mae Kyle, Troy Lee (Alexia) Brown III, Sinclaire Redding and Maxwell Redding, great grandchildren; Tatiyana Burrell, Parker Hiles and Addisyn Brown along with other relatives and friends.
Services for Mrs. Mae Nellie Redding will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Agape Missionary Baptist Church with viewing from 11:00 a.m., to noon. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart, IN.
