Mary Helen Floyd Powell, 82 years old went home to Glory to join her husband JB on October 1, 2018. She was at home with her daughters and great granddaughters. Mary was born June 18, 1936 in Liberty, Mississippi, to Ted Floyd and Mildred Jackson. Both parents preceded her in death. She married the Love of her life, James JB on December 18, 1954 in Liberty, Mississippi. Mary was baptized at an early age in the Methodist Church of Liberty, Mississippi. Mary united with St. James AME when her family moved to Elkhart, Indiana, in 1965. Mary was a housewife; she spoiled her kids, grandkids and great-grands. She also liked to shop and decorate her home. Whenever anyone came to her home they never left hungry, or without an outfit. She believed in Family first, and that may have had something to do with the fact that she was raised with her first and second cousins. Mary and JB had four children, but they raised 10. Surviving are: Rosalie Williamson, Deborah Powell, Joshlyn (Edwin) Dade and Michele, Madelyn Manette, Marjorie and Melanie Zeitler; grandchildren: Jace Williamson and Joshua Allen and Great grandchildren, Janel, Julissa and Christian Dade. Mary’s only surviving sibling is “Joe” Lavern Houston.
Services for Mrs. Powell will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at New Vision of Life Church at 1 PM with a one- hour viewing prior.
