Welcome to the memorial page for

Ruth Mae Miles

August 18, 1954 ~ July 25, 2017 (age 62) 62 Years Old

Ruth Mae (Hall) Miles, 62, of Ponderosa Court, South Bend, Indiana-affectionately known by the family as "Ruthie," a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend, entered the peaceful arms of our Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, July 25, 2017. The third eldest of six children, she was born on August 18, 1954 to Dan and Annie Mae Hall who both peceded her in death.

At the time of her passing, Ruth was employed at Beacon Health Systems (formerly Memorial Hospital) as Human Resource Business Partner, where she served for 37 years.  She also worked for several years as a Licensed Real Estate Agent. Ruth attended Benton Harbor High School (graduating in 1972); and went on to attend Lake Michigan College.

On April 18, 1981, in Benton Harbor, MI, Ruth united in holy matrimony to George A. Miles Sr. Although this union was not blessed with any biological children, together, Ruth and George shared a loving-devoted relationship with son, George A. Miles Jr. and a “special nephew”, Michael Hall, who was like a son.

Ruth confessed her faith in Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Willard McAfee, now under the tutelage of Reverend Willie T. Burton Sr. of New Paradise Missionary Baptist Church,    Benton Harbor, MI, where she grew up singing in the youth choir.

Later relocating to South Bend, IN, Ruth sang for many years with the Michiana Gospel Choir; and united along with her husband, to Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.  After many years of dedicated fellowship there, Ruth and George were led to become servants of Bethlehem Missionary    Baptist Church, where she served until summoned to her Heavenly home.

Ruth was very active with several organizations: she served on the National Delegate and Administrative Board of Girl Scouts for the State of Indiana; organized and chartered South Bend Chapter of National Association of Healthcare Executives; where she was certified as the Human Resource Professional in 2000; South Bend Area Chapter of The Links, Inc.; a member of State and Local South Bend Chapter of  Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM); Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation/South Bend Heritage Foundation (Homeownership Program); and the Michiana Gospel Choir.

Ruth leaves behind to mourn her passing but cherish her memories, a devoted husband, George A. Miles Sr.; two sisters: Deborah (Ezell Cox) Hall, Benton Harbor, MI and Pamela (Nate) Webb, Lansing, MI; sister-cousins: Kathy Jones, Indianapolis, IN, Shelia (Frank) Hawkins, West Memphis, AR and Rosemary Cooper, Indianapolis, IN; two brothers: Alvin Hall, Oklahoma City, OK and Danny (Kathleen) Hall, Seminole, OK; affectionate sisters-in-law, Deborah (Larry) Jones, Phyllis (Michael) Phillips, Janice (Wayne) Batteast; one brother-in-law, Ben (Margaret) Miles; she also leaves her goddaughters: Tacarra Blade,  Erica Shelton, Erin Carter-Wortham, and Eliysa Witherspoon; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially those she had worked with for so many years at Beacon Health Systems.

Along with her parents, a brother David Hall Jr.; and brother-cousin Randy Bell, also preceded her in death.

Ruth was well known for her friendly outgoing yet candid personality and had an awesome ability to plan any successful event, especially for her “Fun and Chatty Girlfriend Parties.” Along with that, she loved entertaining family and friends in their home and had a knack for decorating. At her annual “Thanksmas Celebrations,” officially known as Thanksgiving, it was nothing to walk into her home and see no less than five Christmas trees, beautifully decorated along with all kinds of holiday embellishments spewed inside and outside.

In every sense of the word, Ruth was a real Diva, who also loved to strut her hats, that will be greatly missed, by all who had the pleasure to know her.
