Sonja Petty Obituary

Our beloved and most humorous daughter, wife, mother grandmother, sister and friend, Sonja Melissa Petty went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 13th at 9:10 pm at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. Mrs. Sonja Petty was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 11, 1971 to the union of Pastor Henry H.L. Bush, who preceded her in death, and Supervisor Beverly A. Bush.

She graduated from John Adams High School in 1989, and later went on to attend Bethel College and received an Associates Degree in Business Supervision in 2011. Sonja was an employee of Beacon Health System since 2013 working in the Finance Department, Billing and Collections. Sonja was married 22 years to LaRue V. Petty and to this union 5 beautiful children: LaRue V. Petty II (Latrice) and Jazmine Petty both of South Bend, Indiana, Brielle Petty and Trey Petty, both of Indianapolis, Indiana and Jylen Petty, of South Bend, Indiana.

She was a doting grandmother to LaRiyah Petty, Amaryi Petty, Layah Petty and Diora Petty, who were all the apple of her eye. Sonja’s memory will never be forgotten by her loving family her mother, Supervisor Beverly Bush; sister, Pastor Kimberly (Apostle Jeff) Wilson; brother, Pastor Michael (Jada) Bush; sisters: Shanell Bush and Keisha Foster. She was a fun loving aunt to Michael Bush II, Brittnye Miller, Evan Bush, Connor Bush, Alexis Wilson, Aja Fowler, and Maliah Bush.

Sonja enjoyed life and found humor in everything, she truly brought laughter and joy into all of our lives. She attended all of the basketball games of her sons and nephew. Baking Christmas cookies with her granddaughters was apart of her family tradition. She loved cooking and sharing recipes with family and friends. But her most favorite past time was cooking and bringing her family together. But on the evening of Saturday November 9th, Sonja saw a glimpse of what she described as simply beautiful her facial expression was in complete awe of what captured her attention. On the evening of Wednesday November 13th at 9:10 pm, Sonja went home to be with Jesus.
