Mr. Alfonza Ward, Sr, a resident of South Bend, Indiana, departed this life on Sunday, July 22, 2018.
Alfonza was born on July 5, 1943 in Bessemer, Alabama. As a teenager he moved to South Bend 60 years ago. He graduated from Riley High School in 1961. He was employed by Transpo for the past 32 years as a bus driver. He was a member of Elks Lodge #298 and also a member of Greater St John M.B. Church where he served on the Usher Board.
Alfonza is survived by his wife, Gladys (Blake) Muhammad; seven sons, Alfonza (Jennifer) Ward, Jr., of Plano, Texas, Alonzo Ward of Grandview, Missouri, and Quincy (Wathena) Ward of Olathe, Kansas, Michael (Charline) Ward, Anthony J. (Darlette) Clark, Jay Clark and Forrest Clark, all of South Bend, Indiana; one daughter, Crescent Muhammad of Los Angeles, CA; 17 grandchildren; one sister, Wilner Pope; and one brother, Gerald (Valerie) Pope, both of South Bend, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresia Pope and his brother, Thern Pope.
Services for Mr. Alfonza Ward, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Greater St John M. B. Church. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2018 at Alford’s Mortuary where arrangements have been entrusted.
