With a heavy heart yet profound gratitude for the joy he brought into our lives, we bid farewell to our beloved father, Alphonso Oliver, Sr., affectionately known as Fonz, who left us on November 20, 2024. Born on March 27, 1968, in Syracuse, NY, Alphonso was a man of many virtues - ambitious, witty, loving, and funny. His infectious humor and charismatic personality made life's ordinary moments extraordinary. He was a man who could turn a phrase like no other, his wit and improvisation skills were unmatched. Alphonso had a love for life that was infectious, and he found joy in things as simple as watching sports, engaging in spirited banter over action-packed movies, and creating culinary delights that were a testament to his love for good food.
A devout Christian, Alphonso walked the path of faith with unyielding conviction. He attended church every Sunday and midweek service, volunteering his time and energy wherever needed. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, as he believed in the power of the Word of God to keep him centered and focused. His favorite Bible verse was Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." This verse encapsulated Alphonso's approach to life - to lead by example, shine brightly, and inspire others.
Alphonso's commitment to his family was unwavering. He was a loving father to his children - Altáshia, Alphonso Jr., Isaiah, and Rahaam, a cherished brother to Anne, Roy Sr., Quentin, and Eric, a doting grandfather to his many grandchildren, and a supportive companion to Roshell. He is survived by his children Altáshia and Alphonso Jr., his brothers Quentin and Eric, his sister Anne, and his step-son Tyron. Predeceased by his parents, Roy Sr. and Hazel Oliver, Alphonso's legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched with his warmth, love, and faith.
Alphonso's Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 12:00 pm EST, at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana. We invite all who were touched by Alphonso's life to come and share their memories of him. This is not a goodbye, but a celebration of a life well-lived.
As we remember Alphonso, we encourage you to share your memories and photos of him on the memorial page. Your stories will help keep his spirit alive and remind us all of the love he brought to our lives. In the words of Alphonso, "Never give up on yourself, on God, and keep pushing through adversity to better yourself." Let's honor his memory by living these words every day.
