Barbara Del Johnson was born on January 12, 1942, in Chatfield, Arkansas, to the late Plez Lovelady Sr. and Edna Lovelady. She was the third of four children.
On June 10, 1953, Barbara relocated to Elkhart, Indiana, where she completed her education and earned an associate degree from Beulah University. Barbara married John Henry Johnson and spent over 50 years with him. She had a successful career and retired after 30 years of service as a nurse at Elkhart General Hospital. Barbara enjoyed spending quality time with her family and loving on her grandchildren. Those who knew her and anyone who came into her presence will never forget her beautiful smile.
Barbara had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and desired the same for her family. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age and continued her spiritual walk at Southside Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother, Dr. Plez Lovelady Jr., where she remained in faithful service unto the Lord until her passing. Whatever she could do, she did it to help build the ministry. This world was not her home, for she was merely passing through. On June 9, 2025, God quietly called His servant home to transition from labor to reward.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, John Henry Johnson; Sons: Charles Thomas and Christopher Thomas; Sister: Dorothy May Jackson; Brothers: Urban Lovelady and Willie Lovelady.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, two daughters: Pamela Thomas of Elkhart, IN, and Lisa Thomas of Roselle, IL; three sons: Bobby Lovelady of Elkhart, IN, Anthony (Lorraine) Thomas of Galveston, TX, and Steven (LaVanya) Thomas of Miami, FL; one brother: Dr. Plez (Brenda) Lovelady Jr of Elkhart, IN; (10) grandchildren: Terri Thomas, Jaton (Christine) Thomas, Tiffany Thomas, Tasha Thomas, Brandon Zimmerman, Ashley Lovelady, Brittany Lovelady, Antoinette Thomas, Rachel (Greg) Weeks, Steven (Olivia) Thomas II, eleven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
