Barbara Lewis Obituary

 Barbara Jean Lewis, born June 12, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana to the union of Doris E. (Wade) Bridges and Jessie L. Bridges. She passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Memorial Hospital.

Barbara attended and graduated from John Adams High School in 1971. Barbara accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, at an early age. She began her walk with Christ as a member of Emmanuel COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Willie and First Lady Fannie Mae Coates. Then Charity Temple COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Prentis and First Lady Sharon Lewis. Her final faith transition was to her church family at Elizabeth Memorial COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Joe and First Lady Delores Howard.

On February 9, 1970, Barbara was united in marriage to the late Willie E. Lewis. To that union was born Andre’a D. Lewis.Barbara retired after many years, as a Paraprofessional from S.B.C.S.C. in 2020. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing, decorating, doing arts & crafts, cooking and spending time with her loved ones.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, three daughters, Andre’a Coleman of South Bend, IN., Tarisha (Moreland) Boyd of McKinney, TX. and Ashley (Tremayne) Dozier of Decatur, IL. Ten grandchildren, Brittney Lottie, Jason Diggins, Jerome Boyd Jr. and MyAunnah Wilson, of all of South Bend, IN, Brittany Brown-Boyd of Indianapolis, IN, D’Vaunt’e Boyd of NRH, TX, Joshua Sales of West Lafayette, IN and TreShawn Reynolds-Johnson, Roman Ware and Ta’Nea Ware all of Decatur, IL., Four great-grandchildren, Truth Diggins and Jhalo Boyd of South Bend, IN. and Raeleigh Dillon and Nasir Martin of Indianapolis, IN., Three siblings Marie Stone, Melvin (LaToya) Bridges and Shirl Snowden and one aunt Annie Bridges, a God-daughter, Meilani Cane all of South Bend, IN., special friend Wilma Harris, her grand-dog Nova Simone and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, friends and colleagues. Also, her Special Friends: Lillia Pugh, Rachel Sellers, Jackie McCauley, Joyce Shurn, Sharon Parahams, Maryann McCauley and Tammie H.

Barbara was proceeded in death by both her parents, her husband, two brothers, Mike Nixon and Painter Henderson, four uncles, Joseph Bridges, McClaude Bridges, Nelson Williams and Charles Bridges, two aunts, Deloris Murphy and Barbara Plump.
