Mother Nicholson of South Bend
To the woman who showed us what a real lady look like . Mother Nicholson was a devoted wife to her husband of seventy plus years. She was a real mother to her children whom she cherished a lot. Bettie Nicholson showed us how to garden. She had beautiful flowers every year that gained attention by South Bend tribune twice and often by people in passing. Bettie Nicholson was a real grandmother of a cook. She made homemade biscuits and preserves like apple and peach from scratch. Those are some of the things that most of us had the privilege to be delighted with. Bettie love to go to the church. I remember Sunday, going as a youngster even when I brought friends, they knew to bring church attire cause we were going accordingly to grandma Bettie. After church we’d watch people in the backyard passing through and maybe ate watermelon outside. Bettie believed on the things of the lord and proudly spoke of the goodness of the lord daily. We’d often would have to help hang clothes on the line outside and/or remove them.
Bettie enjoyed walking a lot. She would often admire other people homes and flowers. She would daily and when we walk with her, it was hard to stay in pace with her. Unfortunately, she departed the world on July 1st 2018 after 91 years of her life. She will be well known and well loved by family and community.
Services for Mrs. Nicholson will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 at 1 PM with a half-hour viewing prior at Alford's Mortuary Chapel.
