Obituary

Bobbie Winfrey Sessom better known as Momma, Granny or GG, went home to be with the lord on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023 at St. Joseph Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Bobbie was born on October 20th, 1930, to Brownie Abbott Guiden and Eric (Dude) Guiden in Bradford, TN. She was born 4th out of 7 children with a total of 3 girls and 4 boys. She soon became the mother hen of her siblings, following her mother's actions, taking care of the family as they were raised to be a close-knit family. She also received her education in Bradford, TN.

Bobbie accepted Christ at an early age and with his love she relocated to South Bend IN. Where she found employment with Ziker’s Cleaners and was employed for over 25 years until the Lord had seen fit to release her from her physical labor when her right hand was savored and restored in 1977.

Prior to her accident the Lord had told her, “I will take care of you” and through her testimonies she stated she did not know at the time why he said that to her. But through her 92 years of life, she stood on his words. She often stated God said, “I will” and I'm sticking with that.

Yet, during this time, it did not stop or slow her down not one bit. She wore many hats as an active and faithful member of the Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church for many, many years. She was a Choir Member, Church Clerk, Deaconess, Missionary and served on the Kitchen Committee. Checked on the sick and shut-in and often visited the nursing homes, praying for the sick with her praying partner, Sis Mildred Sutherland. Bobbie was also a member of the Quartet Local 30-2. She was a member of the Harmonettes, along with her daughter Joyce and sister Archie.

In 1993 she moved to St. Louis, MO to be with her eldest daughter Bobbie and family and remained there until 2014, when she returned to live with her daughter Joyce here in South Bend. Whereas it was like she never left, she returned her membership to Mt. Olive serving on the Mother's Board and singing (which she loved) in the choir. Functioning in every capacity the Lord led her to do. She truly was a soldier in the army of the Lord, with everything she did. She remained a faithful member until the Lord called her on home.

Bobbie was the monarch of her family. She was the glue that held us all together. She loved her family and made sure all her grands, great-grands and great-great-grands knew the Lord. She would send them Bible verses daily to help them in life.

She was incredibly blessed to have her daughters provide the most loving care for her during her later years.

Left to cherish her memories are 2 daughters, Bobbie Jean Sowell Johnson, St. Louis, MO & Joyce Brown Fox of South Bend, 9 grandchildren, Carla Rodgers and Jackie Couzart of St. Louis, MO, Carlotta “Nikki” (Eugene) Willaims, Romunda Brown of South Bend, IN, Chaunsey Fox of Elkhart, IN, Charles Johnson of St. Louis, MO, Sharon Williams, Damon Hairston of South Bend, IN, and Kimberly Adeyinka of St. Louis, MO. A stepson Joe (Liz) Sessom of South Bend, IN, a daughter-in-love Clara Fowler of Indianapolis, IN, 2 special granddaughters Raquel Carrillo of South Bend and Lisa Fox of Indianapolis, IN, 27 great-grandchildren, 38 great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great grandson, Special niece Evangelist Katherine Hicks of Columbus, OH and special nephew Jerry (Leatrice) Guiden of South Bend, IN. Her only surviving sister Archie Guiden Pewitte of South Bend, IN and a host of other family and friends that will greatly miss her.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Brownie Guiden and Eric (Dude) Guiden, siblings: Fate [Lucy] Abbott, Coleman (Catherine) Guiden, Auby Ray Guiden, Eula Bell Hallaburton and Eric (Eunice) Guiden Jr.(uncle Son), 2 great-grands, Lashonda Lester & Novell Lester, 1 grandson Cory Raymone Williams, 1 step daughter Helen Henderson, Husbands: Rev.
