With immense love and respect, we acknowledge the passing of Carl Baldwin, who was born on June 29, 1947, in Blytheville, AR, and departed this life on November 7, 2025. Carl lived a full, vibrant life filled with love, laughter, and an abundance of family. Born to Chester Sr and Laura Davis, Carl was known as 'Chubby' to those who loved him most. After settling down in South Bend, Indiana, over 40 years ago, he left a lasting impact on his community through his dedication, vibrancy, and an unyielding spirit of giving.
Carl was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He married his beloved Wanda in 1963, and their love story became an inspiration to many. They brought forth a beautiful family, and Carl took great pride in his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. He spent his days working diligently at Goodwill Industries, where he dedicated his efforts to the dry-cleaning business until his well-deserved retirement. Carl's work ethic was unwavering, and he was respected by all who had the privilege to work alongside him. He was a pillar of strength and kindness and forever remembered for the love he poured into everything he did.
Chubby leaves behind a rich legacy of love and unity. He is survived by his children Bishop Brian (Alicia) Baldwin, Carlyle Baldwin and Shawn Baldwin all of Milwaukee, WI, Starlette Spates of Rockford, IL, Carlos Baldwin of South Bend, IN, Yolanda (Denise) Baldwin of North Aurora, IL., and Carintha Baldwin of Elgin, IL, his sister, Vernice (James) Dearing of San Diego, CA, and his brother, Carvis Baldwin of Inglewood, CA. He also leaves behind, his nephews Kenneth Baldwin (Lisa), Greg and Dennis Bynum and nieces Antionette Covington Shalonda Miller, Bettina Webb and Brittany Baldwin, Laura Wallace, Meshal Ahmad, Linda Baldwin and Shanna Baldwin-Blue, cousins, Isaac (Gwen), Eralee Baldwin, Rosie Baldwin, and Margaret Orsby. His vibrant spirit will continue to live on through his 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Baldwin Sr., and Laura Davis, his beloved wife, Wanda Baldwin, siblings Chester Baldwin Jr., James Willis, Oscar Bynum, George Bynum, Charles Baldwin, Delbra Baldwin, nephew Charles E. Baldwin and mother of two of his children, Gallie Spates.
Please join us as we celebrate Carl's life on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am EST, and the celebration of life will follow at 11:00 am EST.
