Carl Pruitt Obituary

Carl H. Pruitt, Sr. aged 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 27th, 2024.

Carl was a respected Navy veteran, dedicated truck driver, devoted husband, and proud father of seven. Carl’s life was a testament to his strength, love, and passion for good company and good music. Born on August 14th, 1954, in South Bend, IN to Minor and Ethel Pruitt. Carl dedicated time to serving his country with honor in the United States Navy. After his discharge, he found joy in traveling the country as an over the road truck driver. Carl was a beacon of love and stability for his family. As a husband, he was a partner to his loving wife, and as a father, he instilled values in his children and grandchildren. His home was always filled with laughter, love, and music. His voice was a familiar comfort that will be dearly missed. Carl could often be heard humming a tune or singing along to his favorite Temptation songs. His passion for music was infectious, and he was always ready to share a song with anyone in need of a smile.

Carl is survived by his sons Carlos (Maxine), DeRon (Sherron); daughthers Taneisha, LaSonya and Stephanie (Ralph); 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brothers David (Katrina), Terry (Jean), Jerry, and Timothy; and aunts Vera and Queenie.

Carl was preceded in death by his loving wife Sandra, parents Minor and Ethel, paternal grandparents, Fred and Leola Brown Pruitt, Toby and Carol Sue James, his stepmother, Alisha James, sons Carl and Jason, siblings Fred and Diane, nephew Antoine as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at a later date.

Carl’s memory will live on in the melodies that echo in our hearts and the harmonies that unite us. Carl has left an indelible mark on this world, and his song will never end. May his soul rest in peace, May his legacy carry on. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and acts of kindness during this time. A special thanks to the caring staff at St. Joseph PACE, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Alick’s Medical Supplies, and Alford’s Mortuary for their phenomenal service and helping to coordinate his last wishes.
