Carolyn Jean Jackson 77, of South Bend, Indiana was called home by the Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2021. 'Jean,' as she was affectionately known to many, was born on September 1, 1943, to the union of Hilton Richard Sr. and Leora Beatrice Brooks in South Bend, Indiana. Carolyn relocated to Chicago, Illinois after her marriage to Earnest Jackson Sr.
Carolyn married Earnest 'Mason' Jackson Sr. and from that union, they had two sons: Trinnan Jackson and Earnest Jackson III. While in Chicago, Carolyn attended Malcom X College where she earned her certification as a surgical technician. Carolyn worked as a surgical technician at St. Francis Hospital for over 10 years. She and her family later relocated in 1979 to South Bend, Indiana where Carolyn resumed her career as a surgical technician at Memorial Hospital for 20 years before retiring. Carolyn was instrumental in helping to revamp and develop the surgical technician program at Memorial Hospital where they developed a new way to sterilize and distribute instruments needed for surgery.
Carolyn accepted the Lord at an early age and joined Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana under the leadership of Reverend Larry Davidson.
She loved her family and made it a point to attend many family functions put on by her nieces or nephews whenever possible. Carolyn was an excellent cook and she enjoyed cooking big meals for everyone to enjoy. Everyone’s favorites were her chicken and dumplings, strawberry cake, pineapple caramel cake, and her “Kool-Aid pies”, just to name a few. Carolyn especially loved being with her children, grandchildren, and planning and attending family reunions.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earnest Jackson Sr.; and her siblings: Cleophus Kilgore, Catherine Simpson, Edward Kilgore, Mary Woodard, Floyd Kilgore, Jerry Kilgore, Etta Weiss, Hilton Richard Jr., Helen Shurn, and Marva Newhouse. Carolyn was the baby and the last one of the eleven children to go be with the Lord.
Carolyn was an excellent mother and she loved her sons greatly. She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her sons: Trinnan D. Jackson Sr. of South Bend, Indiana and Earnest “Doobie” Jackson III of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren: Trinnan D. Jackson Jr. (Columbus, Ohio), Kalin Jackson (Seattle, Washington), Ryan Jackson (Niles, Michigan), and Vanessa Statem (Madison, Wisconsin); her 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson who lives in Hong Kong, Japan; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Carolyn will be greatly missed by her sons, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandson, as well as her nieces, nephews, and friends. Due to Covid-19, the service will have limited capacity.
