David G. Wakes

David Glenn Wakes, a man known for his funny, supportive, and courageous spirit, was born on May 11, 1973, in South Bend, IN, USA. Fondly known to all as David, he had a love for music and his dancing skills would not go unnoticed. David was a talented cook, and he would often use his cooking skills to bring joy to his family and friends, who were the most important part of his life. His love for cars was another passion that reflected his nature. David never let his spirits wane, showing his courage and determination in various aspects of his life.

David was the cherished son of his mother, Gladys Wakes, and was predeceased by his father, Square Wakes Jr. He was the beloved brother to Michael W., Karen W., Gina W., T. Brian (Shawnna Jackson-Wakes) and Tina Taylor.

David leaves behind the love of his life, Mia Willis. His children: DeVontay, Nakayla, and Nakinzi Wakes. Uncles: JW(Nadine) Holt, Larry Holt, and Jerry Holt. Aunts: Shirley Bland, and Martha Wakes. Nieces: Brittani Moody, LaToya Wakes, Deahndra Jennings, Tiahna Lewis, Nateesha (Ramond) Jacobs, Nina Taylor, Shannelle Wakes, Shaynna Wakes, Shianne Wakes. Nephews: Brian Tishawn Wakes, Micah Walker, Shakwon Taylor, Teron Taylor. Many relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by Grandparents Square (Pearl) Wakes Sr., Toby (Cordia) Holt. Uncles Harlan Holt (Lee Valentine), and Otis Wakes Sr, and Jamie Bland., his niece, Crystal Wakes, whose memory he held close to his heart.

A visitation will be held at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601, on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 12:00pm. A service to celebrate David's life will follow at the same location at 1:00pm. As we gather to remember and honor David's life, we will be reminded of his humor, his love for his family and friends, and his never-ending courage. Please join us in remembering David.
