Della Washington Obituary

Della Mae Washington, age 85, passed away peacefully April 17, 2023. She was born March 10, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Adell and Jeanette Washington.

Della was educated in the private Catholic School system where she attended all years and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She attended a Business certificate program as an adult then started working. She eventually became a homemaker to six children. Della loved to dance all styles of music where she participated in Cha Cha dance competitions in Chicago. She loved to watch movies, crotchet blankets, and she found fancy in dressing her three eldest sons in homemade 3-piece suits to attend services at the Kingdom Hall. She loved to travel to places like New York and Niagara Falls. She loved the arts by attending concerts and events at the theatre.

Her true passion was being with her children and grandchildren. She would take her grandchildren to sporting events in South Bend to spend quality time with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers Tyrone Washington, Jimmy Washington, and Phillip Washington.

She is survived by her six children Richard Johnson III of South Bend, IN;  Eric Johnson of Decatur, GA, Dana Johnson of South Bend, IN; Tony Johnson of Bellingham, WA; Lolita Johnson of South Bend, IN; and Tina (Roberts) Johnson of Stockbridge, GA. She has a host of surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren living in various states.
