Mr. Dempsey K. Jones passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family members.
On August 31, 1954, Dempsey was born to the union of Mr. D.K. Jones and Mrs. Louise (Barr) Jones in South Bend, Indiana. Dempsey was baptized at an early age at St. Paul Bethel Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana. Dempsey attended South Bend Community School, including John Adams High School. Dempsey served his country in the United States Marines. Dempsey was also a “Proud” member of the organization, “The Masons”. Dempsey drove semi-trucks for JB Hunt Trucking Company, which gave him the opportunity to travel. He also worked as a bartender for his long-time Best Friend, Durail, which we all here in South Bend knew as Durail’s in the country. Dempsey inherited from his Father the skillful gift of repairing lawnmowers, cars, TVs, and just about everything. In his retirement years, he established his own lawn mower repair service, of which he had lots of regular satisfied customers. Dempsey bought a bright orange riding lawnmower. He would ride up and down the streets cutting neighbor’s yards, except his own! Dempsey had a passion for old school music. He would often blow up Facebook all night long with old school jams. Dempsey also had a beautiful voice. He could sing like his father and uncles, “The Jones Brothers”. Dempsey was so witty. He could throw shade that would make you laugh hard and cut you at the same time. He had a memory like an elephant. He loved sweets, especially banana cream pies.
Family members left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Mrs. Louise Jones; one son, Terrance (Yvette) Jones, Kenosha, Wisconsin; three daughters, Tsungiririai Monique Jones, South Bend, Indiana, Rejesta Jones, Elkhart, Indiana, and Felicia Jones, Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters, Judy Thompson, Darlene Jones, Antonia (Ike) Jennings, and Tyree Grove; one brother, Dewayne Allen Jones; close family members, Duron Smith, Brandon Dockins, Rashad Grove, Malik, Kamaire, Emery, Bryton Breyn Jones, Carlos Jones, LaShonda James, Armond (Marney) Thompson Jr., Carmen (Stacey) Collins, TaSayla Wright, and Guy Smith; grandchildren, Marktavis, Christopher, Terenyce, Terriyana, Shakeya, Cameron and Cashmeire, Delano, Eniyah, Erik, Emari and Evan; great-grands, Kaydence, and A`mire. On April 14, 1984, in South Bend, Dempsey married his former wife, Ella Mae Williams and from that union, they had one daughter, Tsungi Jones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. D.K. Jones; oldest daughter, Natasha Jones; brothers, Danny Jones, Dale Lee Jones; brother-in-law, Armond A. Thompson; cousin-brother, Terry Otis Smith; maternal grandparents, James, and Estelle Barr; paternal grandparents, Frank and Cora Jones.
“Rest in peace my dear brother. Can’t wait to see you again, Handsome and Healthy. Love you to Live.”
