Derek Lovell Johnson

Derek Lovell Johnson was born January 14, 1956, to Ervin and Naomi (Shivers) Johnson in Gary Indiana. He was the youngest of two children born to Ervin and Naomi.

Derek, affectionately known as “Pee Wee and DJ”, was a person that never met a stranger. He was full of humor and very mischievous. He had a memory like an elephant and seemed to know everybody. He loved his family very much and would protect them to the end. If you were his friend, you were his friend, and he cherished the friendships he made.

Derek was a lifelong resident of Gary, Indiana until 2019 when he moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN with his son Duran. 

Derek was preceded in death by his one Son Tyrone Reynolds Sr, Father Ervin, Mother Naomi and older Brother Dennis L Johson.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons; Duran Rice, Dujuan Rice, two daughters; Neidra Johnson, Kimberly(Michael) Warfield, grandchildren; Kemonte Powell, Parish Robinson, Duran Rice, Jr, Dujuan McIntyre, Dalayshia McIntyre, Caitlyn Rice, Jayden Rice, Jaylen Rice, Jamiah Justice Rice, Tytianna Reynolds, Tyrone Reynolds Jr, Dujuan Rice Jr, Taevion and Jaevion Rice, Diajuhann Rice, Aujunique Rice, Da’moni Rice, Akeem Rice, Dream Rice, Brion Demps, Aisha Johnson, Camren Lipscomb, Myles Lipscomb, Naciera Williams, Katara Warfield, Michael Warfield Jr, a devoted Aunt; Barbara(Doyle) Banks, loving cousins, Robert(Deborah) Gates, Sidney Ivey, Janie Jenkins, LaShawn Jenkins Nash, LaGene Jenkins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Derek Johnson will be laid to rest on Friday June 14, 2024, 1 P.M CST at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 3815 W. 39th Ave, Hobart, IN 46342. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford's Mortuary Inc.
