On March 20th, 2022, after a long battle of illness Elder Walter Lovell Wilburn Sr took his final transition from Laborer to Reward at home with his loving wife Missionary Audrey(DREA)Wilburn by his side.
Walter was born February 22,1952 to the late John Henry and Ruth E. Wilburn in Gary, IN. Walter graduated from Gary’s Rosevelt High School where he enjoyed running track. Later he pursued a degree in electrical engineering at United Electrical Institute in Shively, KY.
Walter worked at Alcoa, Fairfield Gear Manufacturing, in Lafayette, IN American Can, and Eli Lilly (Telecom) where he retired after 29 years of service. He used his gifts to truly light up many lives of being an Electrician by rewiring structures, bringing buildings up to code, and helping churches and people. Walter was a true giver from the heart and believed NO ONE SHOULD GO WITHOUT.
Elder Wilburn received the Lord in 1977, and in 1992 he was called to the Ministry. He loved preaching the word of God. He served under the leadership of Elder Hall, Faith Church of God in Christ, then later in life attended New St. Mark Church of God in Christ where he served as Assistant Pastor under the leadership of Dr. Michael French M.D. He held various jobs in the Church of God in Christ where he faithfully served local and in the district. In 2006, he accepted the appointment of Missions President of Charity district, under the leadership of Bishop Milton L. Hall. In 2008 he accepted the appointment as 1st Administrative Assistant of the Mission Department Under the leadership of Bishop Donald L. Alford Sr.
Elder Wilburn's favorite song was “Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus”.
Elder’s favorite scripture was II Corinthians 5;1.... For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved; We have a building of God and a house not made with hands: eternal in the heavens.
Walter leaves to morn, is his loving wife of 16 years, Missionary Audrey (DREA)J. Wilburn; a blended family of 11 children, Harold (Tiffany) Wilburn, Zadonna Wilburn, Ladonna Wilburn, Walter Wilburn Jr., Samuel Wilburn, all of Indiana, Elizabeth (Daniel) Graham of Kentucky, Joseph Wilburn, Sabrina Wilburn, Phillip Wilburn; his bonus sons, Anthony (Lauren) Robinson and Justin (Channita) Robinson, all of Indiana; 4 brothers: John (Jolynn) Wilburn of Lafayette,IN.,Kenny(Veda) Wilburn of Chesapeake, Va., Darryl (Debra) Wilburn of Lafayette IN.,Anthony Wilburn, of Lafayette,IN 4 sisters Verdell (James)Releford of Fishers, IN., Carolyn Wilburn Battle of Greenwood, IN., Alice Garrott of Plainfield,IN., and Sheila Ross of Utah. 20 grandchildren , 2 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, saints, and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Wilburn, granddaughter Brittany Harbin, and siblings Melvin Wilburn and Janet Wilburn.
