Ella M. Gadson

Ella Mae Gadson, known affectionately as Ella Mae, was a beacon of supportive strength, compassion, and joy in the lives of those she touched. Born in Hughes, AR on August 29, 1946, Ella's vibrant spirit radiated through her infectious humor and unwavering reliability. She spent her working years as a laborer of unmatched diligence and dedication. In her leisure, Ella was quite the angler, deriving immense pleasure from fishing. She also enjoyed long car rides around town, soaking in the sights and sounds of the places she called home - Hughes, Arkansas and later, Elkhart, Indiana.

Ella was a treasured member of her church, living her Christian faith with quiet sincerity. The words of Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven," beautifully encapsulates Ella's life. She shone her light of love, kindness, and laughter on everyone she met, illuminating their lives with her unique charm and vivacity. Ella found joy in the simple, genuine connections of life, most notably in the company of her family and a large group of longtime friends. She had a special fondness for the blues, a music genre that echoed the rhythms of her own life - soulful, authentic, and deeply resonant. Her bond with her brother Henry "Hank" Gadson and sister-in-law Carolyn was especially profound, marked by countless shared moments and memories.

Ella leaves behind a rich tapestry of love and legacy, remembered by her mate Webb Arnold, who provided her with extraordinary care; her sons Carl (Angela) Gadson, Derry Gadson (Freida Dyson), and Alvin Gadson; her brother Henry Gadson (Carolyn Briggs); granddaughters Deann Smith, Jasmine Allen, Carlicia Gadson; grandson Denzel Gadson and great-granddaughter Mya Hines. She was preceded in death by her parents Julius and Rachel Gadson, her daughter Lanette Gadson, and brother Larry Gadson.

Through her life's journey, Ella Gadson embodied the essence of support, reliability, humor, and compassion. Her life will be celebrated on Friday, 21 Feb 2025 at 12:00pmEST at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601.
