Emma was a steadfast member and Church Mother at Faith Alive Ministries Of South Bend, Indiana. Her faith was a cornerstone in her life, and she lived by the verse, "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:9). This verse encapsulated Emma’s spirit, a woman who tirelessly gave her love and energy to her family, her work, and her community. Emma's career as a crossing guard with the South Bend Police Department spanned over 25 years, a testament to her dedication and commitment. Her passion for barbecuing and her competitive spirit were well-known in the community, often leading her to participate in barbecue competitions. A recipient of a Certificate in Nutrition and an Associate's Degree in Upholstery from Ivy Technical College, Emma personified lifelong learning.
Family was the backbone of Emma's life. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Penney Carter-Palmer, Larry Owens, and Kerry Carter, her caring brothers Howard and Joe Franklin, and her beloved grandchildren Antoinette Murphy, Mercedes Kimble-Stuckey (Robert Stuckey), and Ryan Belcher. Emma was preceded in death by her parents Estella and Monroe Franklin, her husband's Larry Jones and Andrew Carter, her siblings Mary Franklin, Nathaniel Franklin, Monroe Franklin, Shirley Agnew, Henry Franklin, and Clayborn Monroe Franklin.
In celebrating Emma’s life, we pay tribute to a woman whose heart was as big as her smile, and whose kindness left an indelible mark on the world. We encourage friends and family to share their memories and upload photos of Emma to the memorial page, helping us to keep her spirit alive for generations to come.
