Mr. Ernest Neal Herron, Sr. of South Bend, IN passed away at the age of Eighty-six on February 8, 2026. Ernest was born on November 16, 1939, in Lexington, Tennessee to the union of Vester and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Herron. His brother, Robert E. Heron relocated his family to Mishawaka, Indiana. Ernest, affectionately known as Ernie to family and friends. He was educated in the City of Mishawaka Public School District. Where he ran track and graduated. He also attended the Lovell's Barber College with his brother James Herron.
He was united in marriage to Verdia Lee Perry until her death. And to this union were three sons, Ernest N. Herron, Jr., Anthony Herron, Bryant Herron, all of South Bend, IN, Bernard Perkins of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Ernest worked and retired at AM General for 41 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed working, cooking for his family for Thanksgiving, playing his bass guitar, he was a dedicated hunter, gardener, and a diehard fisherman. He looked forward to every year fishing with his son, Neal.
Ernest received Christ in life and was a member of the Revelation Christ of God in Christ, where his brother Pastor Robert E. Herron was the Pastor, and where Elder Steve E. Herron, Sr. currently is Pastor. He was dedicated to the mission of Jesus Christ.
He was the Director of the maintenance department and made sure the house of God was beautified. He was a very faithful and compassionate pit master for Revelation Church fundraisers. His heart reflects gratitude and obedience based on Malachi 3:10.
He leaves to rejoice in his memories: four sons, Bernard Perkins of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ernest, Jr., Bryant Herron both of South Bend, Indiana, Anthony (Jennifer) Herron of Plymouth, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen greatgrandchildren, one Sister, Claudine Taborn, one Brother, Jimmie (Darlene) Herron, two sister-in-Laws Sharon (Sherry) Herron and Patricia Herron. A host of relatives and friends.
Proceeding him in death; his Parents Vester and Lizzie Herron, his wife Verdia Lee Perry, two sisters: Tinnie Rhodes, Jessie Fountain, five brothers: Pastor Arzo Herron, Pastor James Herron, Sr., Pastor Robert Sr. and Mrs. Tennie Heron, Pastor Johnnie Herron, Sr., and Vester Herron, Jr.
2 Timothy 4: 7-8:
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the
faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which
the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only
but unto all of them also love his appearing.
