With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Estella Murray, a beacon of strength, love, and warmth, who departed peacefully on October 23, 2023.
Born in Poplar Bluff, MO, on January 15, 1937, she planted her roots in South Bend, Indiana, where she created a life that was a true testament of resilience, love, and joy. Estella was a hardworking woman, who retired from Memorial Hospital in 2002 after 22 years of dedicated service. Her work ethic was only surpassed by her love and commitment to her family and her faith. A proud member of the Bethlehem Baptist Missionary, Mother's Board, Pastors Aid, and a dedicated Youth Sunday School Teacher, Estella’s faith was unwavering and her love for her community was boundless. She found joy in the simple pleasures; her love for flowers, reading, cooking, shopping, and her spirited attempts at singing were sources of joy for all who knew her.
Estella's legacy will be carried on by her loving family: her children, Sharon (Jose) Bicknell of Dallas, TX, Gail Humble of Palm Beach, FL, Warlena Brown, Cornell (Jannice) Murray, Steven Reynolds, and Byron Murray all of South Bend, IN; her sisters, Joyce Evans of Niles, MI, Deressie (Clarence) Kelly of North Carolina, and sister-in-law, Ora Mae; her grandchildren, Lena Greer, Gwendolyn Cannady, Tonya (Maurice) Hunter, Andrea Adams, Tosha Phillips, Tonda Phillips, Michael (Tamara) Phillips, Shalana Murray, Terrell Murray, Kendra Clark and Brandon Reed; along with a host of great-grandchildren, and her dear friend, Melinda Bradley of South Bend, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Virrader Powell, her siblings, Essie Powell, Willie Powell, Durrell Glispie, her beloved husband, Walter Murray, and her children, Denda Winston, Barbara Price, Derek Reynolds, Saundra Murray, and Anthony Murray.
We invite you to join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11:00am EST, at the Bethlehem Baptist Missionary Baptist, 24393 Fillmore Rd, South Bend, Indiana, 46619. Friends may visit with the family an hour prior. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. We encourage you to share your fondest memories and photos of Estella on her memorial page, celebrating the remarkable life she lived.
