Florine Mitchell

Florine Mitchell, 100 years old of Ardmore Trail South Bend IN passed away on Tuesday April 12, 2022 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend IN after being abundantly blessed to have spent a century on God’s green earth. What a testimony!

Florine was born June 18, 1921 in Blytheville Arkansas to Hilliard and Flora Turner Sr. who both preceded her in death.

Coming from Marked Tree, Arkansas in 1943 she moved to South Bend, Indiana. She united in holy matrmony to Walter Turner Sr. on August 6, 1966 and to this union their only child Walter Jr was born. Her husband preceded her in death in 2021. Florine married Richard Mitchell in Ocxtober of 1989 and he preceded her in death in 2011. Also preceding her in death is one son Murphy Smith, two grandsons Danny Smith and Bernard Smith and a granddaughter LeAnn Smith.

Florine owned and operated a Catering business for four years and a Cleaning business for six years. She then at the age of 75 became a driver for Real Services. Her last job was an Event Coordinator for Martin Luther King Center whereas she retired in 2012. Her passions were fishing, gardening and church.

Florine was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church since its inception. She served on the Usher Board and Mothers Board.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include one son Walter Turner Jr, a god daughter Elizabeth (Joe) Sessom all of South Bend IN, two grandchildren Isaiah Turner of Mishawaka IN and Kevin Smith of Cleveland OH, a host of great grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church 24393 Fillmore Road, South Bend, IN, 46619 on Saturday April 16, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
