With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Genevive Fulwiley, lovingly known as Dee, on June 7, 2025. Born on October 5, 1957, in Kilmichael, MS, Dee was a beacon of love, a pillar of resilience, and an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. Her thoughtful heart and unwavering faith in God were the cornerstones of her life and the lights that guided her path.
Dee's journey took her from her birthplace in Kilmichael to Joliet, Illinois, and Chicago Heights, Illinois, before finally settling in South Bend, Indiana. She dedicated her life to the noble vocation of being a CNA, serving with 'Have A Heart Healthcare' for over four decades. Her commitment to the care and wellbeing of others was a testament to her loving spirit and enduring resilience. Her love for fashion and her zest for being a diva added a touch of sparkle and joy to the lives of those around her.
Dee was a loving mother, a cherished sister, and a pillar of strength in her family. She is survived by her children, Julius Griggs, Sharlonda Garfield-Adams, Michael Garfield, and her sisters, Almeter Miller and Evelean Grantham. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Pero Fox, and her siblings, Pero Jr., Ydell Fox, Adrene Eskridge, Mae Robinson, and James Fox.
As we remember Dee, we are reminded of the words of Psalm 46:1-3, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging." This was the faith that anchored Dee, and it is the hope we hold onto as we celebrate her remarkable life.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm EDT at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana, 46601. This will be followed by a celebration of Dee's life at 2:00 pm EDT at the same venue.
As we honor the life and spirit of Genevive, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos of her on the memorial page. Your stories and pictures will serve as a testament to her loving, thoughtful, resilient, and inspiring life.
