George Matthews

Mr. George E. Matthews was born on August 24, 1959, in St. Louis, Missouri to Mr. And Mrs. Matthews who preceded him in death.

George moved and resided in South Bend, Indiana where he met and married Helen Henderson on August 14, 1974.  She preceded him in death.  Four children were born to this union: Cynthia Collier (Willie) of Marietta, Georgia, and Donna Bermuder (Julio) of South Bend, Indiana, who both survive, Mary Jean Scott and Eugene Hoskin preceded him in death.

George continued on his journey of life when he met and married Corrine Fennessee on May 10, 1998. Corrine preceded him in death.  Three children, Trinette Burnett (Tyrone) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tony Fennesse (Teresa), and Tory Fennesee (Tamia), both of South Bend, Indiana.  He later met and married Janice Richards and from that union two children were born: Angie Powell of South Bend, Indiana, and Michael Nevis of Indianapolis, Indiana; he is also survived by a host of grandchildren.

He gave his life over to the Lord where he became Elder Matthews at Greater St. Matthews Church. George worked maintenance for years until he owned his own business as a lawnmower and bike repairman.

George was a family orientated, God-fearing man who was always trying to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He just loved life within itself until illness fell upon him. Even after that, he was in great spirit and at peace knowing he had given his life and soul to the Lord.
