Mr. Herbert Leemar James, a resident of South Bend, Indiana passed from this life on Friday, May 29, 2020 in Memorial Hospital at the age of 67. Herbert was born in Lumpkin, Georgia on July 28, 1952 to Willie Arthur and Eddie Mae (Gilbert) James.
Coming from Georgia, he moved to South Bend on July 7, 1958 where he attended public school. In 1972 he graduated from Riley High School. He also graduated from Ivy Tech in August, 1985 with a technical certificate in office business and clerical. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 until 1976.
Herbert’s employment career included Sibley Foundry, Wells Aluminum, United States Post Office, Specialized Staffing (working banquets at Notre Dame), Palace Royale, Marriott Hotel, and Century Center. (He also worked at the baseball stadium and concession stands).
Family members who preceded him in death were his parents, Willie and Eddie Mae James; grandmother, Addie L. Townsend; grandfather, Ed Gilbert; step-grandfather, Isom Townsend; brothers: Willie R. James Jr., Robert L. James, Larry L. James, and Edie James; aunts: Lucille McNeil, Corrine Gilbert, and Van Ester Cannon; uncle, Robert Beauford; and cousins, Edward Gilbert and Eddie Mary Gilbert.
He is survived by a son, Tyrone D. James (fiancée, Kala Clerenger) of Goshen, Indiana; grandchildren, Raelyn Mckinstry, and Tionna James; grandchildren, Ariole James, Arion James, and Amerion; sister, Martha l. (Otto) Willingham of Flint, Michigan; and a brother, Bobby L. ( Lisa) James of Toledo, Ohio.
