MOTHER JANICE R. BOND

Janice R. Bond, loving mother, grandmother, sister, church mother, friend, and caregiver, who was loved by many, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana.
From the union of Robert D. and Bessie R. Bond Jr., both of Tennessee, she was born on June 1, 1953. She was the oldest of nine children. A very strong and family-orientated woman that loved her family and instilled family values, love, trustworthiness, and grace. She was affectionately called Mother Bond or Mama to all she cared for.
Earlier in her years she attended Central High School and later graduated from LaSalle High School. She gave her life to Christ at a young age while being a member of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ under Elder Coates. Sometime later she found a church home at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ with Bishop Donald L. Alford Sr. and remained a member for nearly 30 years.
She was employed at Signature Group as a telemarketer. Through her hard work, she became a Marketing Manager at Market Opinion Research that later was called Market Strategies. After 18 years of service, she decided to concentrate on church and home.
She went back to school and graduated from IUSB of South Bend, which was among some of her achievements and other accomplishments.
She had two children: Jeannette Y. Pates and Lonnie E. King III. Through a civil union with Melvin D. Smith Sr., involving more children, Melvin D. Smith Jr., Jassette Ross, Kela J. Asare, David Smith, and Rainy Smith.
Janice leaves to cherish her loving memory, two sons, Lonnie E. King III, Melvin (Terrica) Smith; two granddaughters, Alonna D. King, all of South Bend, Indiana and Milan Bankhead of Starville, Mississippi; three sisters, Diane M. Bond, Mae C. Bond, both of South Bend, IN and Valerie and Billie Malone of Elkhart, IN; four brothers, Larry (Dorinda) Bond, Robert D. (Yolanda) Bond, John (Bonita) Bond and Tim (Michelle) Bond, all of South Bend, IN, a host of nieces, nephews, adopted and extended family, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert D. and Bessie Bond Jr.; daughter, Jeannette Y. Pates; brother, William J. Bond; a daughter by civil union, Shiquita C. Mobley; and a stepson, David Smith.
The Bond family wishes to thank you all for your prayers, love, and well wishes. Thank you.
