Joe Laury, Sr. Obituary

Joe aka “Joe Joe”, was born on July 14, 1975, to Joe Davis Frieson and Patricia Laury (Pat).

Joe attended Dwight D. Eisenhower high school, where he began his firefighter career as a junior cadet at just 17 years of age. He then pursued a career as a Fireman and was a Chief Engineer, and also made Lieutenant at one point, and back to Chief Engineer, as it was a running joke at the firehouse of nobody knew what position they were in, due to the Chief and his mood that day. They all joked about it and called their uniforms velcro so they could switch easily. Joe also enjoyed being not “a”, but “the” repo man, which was a side job that he had in addition to being a fireman.

Joe and Janice began a friendship in 1994. In 1995 they began a relationship which blossomed into their marriage in which they shared for 26 years. Joe and Janice married on July 14, 1999, which also happened to be Joe‘s birthday. He picked this day saying he wanted to remember when their anniversary was. In 2005 they welcome their one and only child Joe Davis Laury Jr., also known as Jay. Joe absolutely loved and adored his wife and was so profoundly proud of his son and loved him deeply. He was proud of his son graduating and finishing trade school. Their bond was unbreakable.

In 2010 Joe and Janice planted roots in Mishawaka Indiana where Joe pursued a career as an EMT for Elite ambulance service. He also worked alongside his brother-in-law Lamond a.k.a. Monty doing repossessions and also worked as a repossessor for another car dealership named hot wheels, as well as a bouncer, and a uber driver, however Joe‘s greatest role and job that he ever held was being a dad.

Joe was loved by many and had a few that he was close to including his dad Joe Frierson, they would speak often and during difficult times his dad was right by his side, his sister Tasha (Ed) he loved their relationship, and all the quality time they spent together, he would call her just to fuss and tease her. He definitely loved messing with her, another sister Chenice and brother in law Kareem would also speak often, and have shared many weekends at his home, Indiana beach, and Michigan City beach, just enjoying being together, next is Lamond Presswood, a.k.a. Monty his brother-in-law, but most people, including themselves, felt that they were real blood brothers. They were extremely close starting at childhood growing up in a duplex together, and had an unbreakable bond. Most if not all days you could catch Joe at the shop hanging with his brother. Then there’s Jason Martin, his best friend of over 15 years and brother from another mother. They often called each other twins with Jason saying that Joe was the better looking one. They spent almost every day together either in person or on the phone. Next is his first best friend and cousin Antoine Shell a.k.a. “Burger” they were inseparable growing up, and shared a bond more like brothers rather than cousins, Joe made sure to stop by his booth whenever he was in town . Then theirs his sister in law Joey Reed, (Lamond Presswood) to whom he shared a special bond with they were tight, they enjoyed going to have seafood together, calling each other for advice and words of encouragement and often joked about how they survived the Presswoods. Joe also had a special bond with his uncle Dean, making sure he went to see him every time he was in town, and spending time with him at his home as well. Finally Joes favorite aunt Minnie, he loved her so much. She came to help him after one of his hospital stays and he drove her crazy, and he love and appreciated her for being there.

Robbins and the Robbins Fire Department always had a special place in Joes heart. Joe leaves behind a host of family and friends nieces nephews and cousins. He was truly loved by many. He had a “loud” personality that was welcoming and could light up any room. He will never be forgotten, and will truly be missed.
