We are saddened to announce the passing of John Parker, born on December 1, 1945, in Vincent, Arkansas. Known for his generosity, dedication, and love for his community, John spent his life in service of others. An outstanding citizen and a beloved member of the South Bend, Indiana community, John was a man of many talents and accomplishments.

John was a man of determination and diligence, as displayed throughout his life. His steadfast dedication was evident in his service with the U.S. Army, where he was honorably discharged, achieving impressive rankings and awards, including the National Defense Service Medal and Rifle Sharpshooter. John dedicated 39 years of his life to the South Bend Transportation as a bus driver, a role that allowed him to interact with countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact on many. Beyond his professional life, John was a vibrant, multifaceted individual. His love for music was unmistakable. An excellent singer and musician, John played saxophone, trumpet, and guitar, and sang in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Male Chorus Choir. His commitment to his community knew no bounds, serving as a trustee at Bethlehem MBC for over half a century, and volunteering at Layman Chapel's Food Pantry, for which he was awarded an appreciation award.

John leaves behind his fiancé, Gwendolyn Williams; his sisters Lula M. Jeter, Rose E. Parker-James all of South Bend, IN., and Clara Taylor of West Memphis, AR; his treasured granddaughter, Ashante Wallace of California, sister-in-law, Mattie Parker; two bonus daughters and one bonus grandson who affectionately called him Poppie as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

John's life was a testament to the power of community, generosity, and service. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. We encourage you to share your memories and upload photos of John to his memorial page. His life was a song of service and love; let's keep his melody alive.
