He was a man of faith, an active member of the Baptist Church, embodying the scripture, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)

John was preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Bridges and Albert Baker, his beloved wife, Carol Baker, his precious daughter, Tonya Blalock, and his siblings, Charles Baker, Joe Baker, James Plump, Geneva Walls, and Thelma Eubanks.
