Joseph Wingo, Sr. Obituary

Joseph Lee Wingo, born on June 2, 1947, in Buchanan, Michigan, took his final bow on July 9, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana. Joseph was a devoted follower of Christ, a loving husband, father, brother, and a gifted musician who touched many lives with his songs of faith. He found joy in the simple things of life, most particularly in the company of his beloved family and in the music he crafted with his brother Eugene as part of the duo known as the Wingo Brothers.

Joseph was a man of many talents, but his most cherished role was that of a dedicated family man. He was deeply loved by his wife, Beverly Wingo, his children Fred (Casandra) Teague, Dawn Wilks, Joseph Reynolds, Sunjoi Bradshaw, Joseph Wingo Jr, Justin Bradshaw, Andre Wingo, Brigette (Darry) Williams-Fitzgerald, Tonjia Wingo, Antoinette Trawick, Joseph Allen Wingo and his siblings Eugene (Earlean) Wingo, Anna Brown, Kevin (Adrian) Newell, 30 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Felton Newell and Lillie Robinson; his brothers Fred Wingo, Herbert Wingo, Judge Shelton, and Jeffery Newell; and his grandchildren Frederick Jones, Courtney Trawick, and his great-grandchildren Faith Davis, Kaliel Bradshaw, Caizen Lee, Darianna Easton, and Darious Easton.

In the words of the biblical verse Romans 14:8, "If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord." Joseph lived his life in service to the Lord and his music was a testament to his unwavering faith. His songs served as a beacon of hope and a source of comfort to many. His love for his family, his dedication to his faith, and his passion for music will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who knew him.

We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Joseph on his memorial page. Let's celebrate his life, his music, and the love he shared with us all. The service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 12:00pm EDT with the visitation one hour prior at the New Good Hope Baptist Church, 112 Fulton Street, Buchanan, Michigan.
