Josephine Murray Middleton, 84, of South Bend, Indiana, entered into eternal rest on January 29, 2026, at Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 3, 1941, in McCormick, South Carolina, to David Murray and Ozelia Gilchrist Murray. She received her education in the public schools of McCormick, where her lifelong love of learning first took root.
Josephine was a woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion to God, who guided every step of her life. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great‑grandmother whose presence brought warmth and steadiness to her family. She cherished reading, treasured time spent with loved ones and found joy in serving the Lord.
For thirty‑five years, Josephine dedicated her talents and work ethic to the Century Center of South Bend, where she was known for her commitment and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick Middleton; her daughter, Wanda Middleton‑Sanders; her brother, Willis Gordon Murray; and her parents, David and Ozelia Gilchrist Murray.
Left to honor her memory are her sons, Dave (Niecy) Middleton Sr. of Elkhart, Indiana, and Larry Middleton Sr. of Mishawaka, Indiana; her daughters, Dorothy Murray of McCormick, South Carolina, and Rose Middleton, Peggy Middleton, and Shameka Middleton, all of South Bend, Indiana. She is also survived by her son‑in‑law, Rick (Wanda) Sanders of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; her sisters, Joane Murray of Palmdale, California, and Alice of Florida; her sister‑in‑law, Mildred Fambrough of McCormick, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, relatives, friends, and God‑daughters who will forever cherish her memory.
Josephine’s life was a testament to faith, love, and quiet strength. Her legacy lives on in the many hearts she touched.
