Mother Mary Ann Scott was born on November 11, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the youngest of ten children born to the late David and Lela V. (Switcher) Scott.
Mary Ann was educated in the Chicago Public Schools, attending Walter Reed Elementary School and graduating from Englewood High School in 1972.
She received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification from Dawson Technical Institute, in Chicago, Illinois.
She accepted Christ as a teenager at McClellan Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Authur Charles McClellan. She was an Aspiring Missionary and also the Pastors' soloist. In 1978, after the closing of McClellan Temple, she joined New Birth Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Founder, Pastor Johnnie B. Wheeler, after his demise, Bishop Willard L. Payton was appointed the Pastor.
On August 13, 1978, Mary Ann was blessed with a beautiful, baby girl she named, Shantelle Davina.
Mary Ann was previously employed at the California Gardens Nursing Center.
After the passing of her mother in 2004, Mary Ann moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. She joined Dupree Memorial Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Lester A. Bush, Jr. In 2021, she joined Oakridge Temple Church & Ministries Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Elisha Harris, Jr., where she served on the Mothers Board.
Mary Ann enjoyed cooking, especially Turnip Greens and cornbread, sewing and loved watching all Disney movies. She especially loved to dress up, matching everything from her hair accessories, jewelry, fingernails, purses and her shoes. Mary Ann was definitely a professional shopper!
God called Mary Ann home on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 10:42 am., in the home of her daughter, Shantelle and son in love Brian.
Mary Ann leaves to cherish loving memories; her daughter, Shantelle Davina Morgan and husband, Brian N. Morgan. Grandson; Brione (Dashell) Morgan. Granddaughter; Selena Morgan; 7 great grandchildren; Delilah Morgan, Zayden Morgan, Bryaire Morgan, Brilynn Morgan, Nyla Poindexter, Brione Morgan, Jr. and Balynn Morgan, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Sisters; Rosie L. Spires, Delores Gardner and Lucille M. Scott, all of Chicago, Illinois. Sister in loves; Carol Scott, Michelle (Bradley) Hodges and Vearline Scott, all of Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; David and Lela V. (Switcher) Scott, brothers; David Scott, Jr., Robert Scott, Albert D. Scott, Charles L. Scott, Percy Scott, Sr. and James Scott.
Homegoing services honoring Mother Scott will be held at 1 P.M EST on Saturday January 17, 2026, at Oakridge Temple & Church Ministries C.O.G.I.C, located at 2808 Evans Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46806, family and friends may gather at 12 noon EST.
