Mary Jane Leggett Morgan, born on March 26th, 1951, in South Bend, IN, departed this earthly life on the morning of Tuesday November 5th, 2024. Mary was a pillar of resilience, a beacon of love, and a testament to the spirit of generosity.
Mary was a spiritual woman whose positive energy warmed every room she walked into. She was a dedicated mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother whose love and care radiated in everything she did. The scent of White Diamond that usually accompanied her presence and her heartfelt words of “You be sweet alright!” will forever be etched in our memories.
Mary spent her early years in South Bend, Indiana, before moving to Los Angeles, California in 1978. This is where she became one of the first woman forklift crane operators, a testament to her resilience. After 20 years in this career, she embraced retirement, and soon moved backed to South Bend. In Mary's later years she worked various positions in the customer service and health care industry before settling on being a dietary aide at Health Win. Mary filled her days with the music she adored, delectable food, a selection of her favorite television shows, and playful games of cards or dominoes with her family. Her family was her world, and she dedicated her life to their happiness and wellbeing.
Mary was the precious daughter of Estelle Easten and is survived by her loving children LaVerne Wilson (Charles), Patrick Drake, and Jim Morgan Jr. (Kelly). She was the proud grandmother to La'Zhane Chaffer (Benjamin), LaFara Whaley, LaTehra Whaley, Lafayette Whaley, LaFonte Whaley, and Myaunah Wilson. She is also survived by her siblings Debra Hill, Anthony Hill, johnnie bailey (LaRhonda), Tracey Bailey, Billy Bailey, her adoptive son Andra Pulliam (Ivory), 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her father William Leggett, her ex-husband Jim Morgan, and her dear sisters Betty Spates and Michelle Bailey. To quote Maya Angelou, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Mary's dedicated, generous, resilient, and loving spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her.
