It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Phillips Jr, a remarkable figure of unwavering commitment, generosity, and love. To know him was to love him! Born in South Bend, Indiana, on February 25, 1977, Michael's life was a testament to the words of Maya Angelou, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Michael dedicated his life to making others feel loved, valued, and supported.
Michael married Autumn on May 15, 2015, in St Thomas Virgin Islands. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Autumn Phillips and three wonderful children, Makayla, Myles and Mia Phillips, his loving parents, Michael and Phyllis Phillips Sr., his brothers DeRon (Cassandra) Phillips and Marqus Phillips Sr., sister Meagan Phillips, nephews Marqus Phillips Jr., Timothy (Jessica) Hope, Atlanta, GA, Jeffrey Finley, IN, and nieces Malanie Stovall, Briana Phillips, South Bend, DeRona Phillips, Minneapolis, MN, Emily (Jerian) Grant, Bowie, MD, Karis Phillips and Kiara Finley, South Bend. He is preceded in death by his Maternal grandparents Ben and Margaret (Evans) Miles Sr., and paternal grandparents Wiley and Reba (Taylor) Phillips Jr. He was also preceded in death, by a special cousin, who was more like his second mother: Yvette Elaine Wigfall. He graduated from Washington High School of South Bend and then went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Purdue University. He worked at Delphi Automotive, Firestone and most recently Delta Faucet as Project Manager, Supply Chain & Service.
Michael’s legacy is one of profound love and unwavering faith in others. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Michael was a beloved husband, father, son, uncle, coach, mentor and cherished friend. Known for his generous heart, he lived a life rooted in faith, family, love, purpose, and service. His children, Makayla, Myles, and Mia, will forever hold onto the memories of their father’s laughter, his unwavering guidance, and his gentle, yet strong presence.
When Michael relocated to Carmel Indiana, he found great solace in fellowshipping at Traders Point Zionsville Indiana under the leadership of Associate Pastor Aaron Bramlett. He loved all sports, especially his beloved Indianapolis Colts an honorary member of the ‘Blue Crew’ and of course Purdue, Boiler Up! Everyone and I mean everyone knew him as either; Mike, MP, Peezy, Big Mike, Uncle Snacks or Michael. He was the life of the party! He loved adventure! Fiercely devoted, he found his greatest pride and joy in the people he loved and cared for every day. He truly had the greatest smile and would light up every room.
As we mourn the loss of Michael, we celebrate the extraordinary life he lived. His spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched with his kindness, strength, and unwavering faith. His light continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him and he will forever be remembered as a man who lived honorably, loved fiercely, and gave deeply, and laughed contagiously. Until we meet again my love.
Visitation will be held on Saturday July 12, 2025, at Mount Carmel MBC, 1620 St. Joseph Street, South Bend, Indiana 46613, beginning at 12 Noon with the celebration of life services beginning at 1 P.M at the same location. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford’s Mortuary Inc.
