Michael A. Poindexter

Mr. Michael Anthony Poindexter's wings were ready, so he was summoned to eternal rest on October 22, 2021. Michael was born to Alonzo Sr. and Katherine Poindexter on January 24, 1958, in South Bend, IN.  He received his education through the South Bend Community School Corporation and worked as a laborer, an impeccable & skilled lawn technician for most of his life.      

Michael loved many things - first and foremost, his family & friends!  He loved to let you know he was  M-I-C-H-A-E-L!  He loved to take PICTURES, cook (most notably, his barbecue), sports - especially Notre Dame football…Enjoying life with adventure & laughter was a priority – he was the ‘Life of the Party’!   

He was preceded in death by his father, Alonzo Poindexter, Sr; mother, Katherine Poindexter, his brothers Tommy Poindexter, Wesley Poindexter, Raymond Poindexter, and Jimmy Poindexter; sisters Lavada Poindexter and Barbara Lark.  Niece, Carla Poindexter; and Cousins Anthony Poindexter and Gary Poindexter.  

Michael was fondly known as ‘Poni’ - a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, & friend; he lovingly referred to his daughters, their mother, and his granddaughters as ‘Michael’s Girls’.  He is survived by his Daughters, Damika D. Poindexter of Indianapolis, IN and Michelle A. Poindexter of Austin, TX; Three (3) Grandchildren, Carchelle Bethel, Xavier Hill & Dashaunna Watts; Seven (7) Great Grandchildren, Marlee Bethel, Xavier Hill, Xalaya Hill, Xara Hill, Jersey Rowie, Paislee Bethel, and Berkeley Bethel; Two (2) Honorary Children, Victor Phillips of South Bend, IN and Dora (Tony) Newsom of Indianapolis, IN.  The Mother of his Children, Sharon Townsend of South Bend, IN; his Significant Other/Companion/Best Friend, Carol Lynn Fulce.  Five (5) Brothers, Alonzo Poindexter, Jr. of South Bend, IN, David Poindexter (Terry) of Indianapolis, IN, Calvin Coleman and David Coleman of South Bend, IN, and Darrell (D Mac) McCrary of South Bend, IN.  Three (3) Sisters: Sheila Taylor of Phoenix, AZ, Judy Wilson and Jackie Bailey of Moreno Valley, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.  Special Mentions - Cousins: Devore Poindexter and Stephanne Diane Hillman; Friends: Alex Wesson, Kerry Kimble, Carl Kimble, David Wonsley, Robert Earl Lottie, Tony Northern, Sam Buck Northern ‘Bossman’, Charles Binion (‘Chief’), Abe Horton, Aaron Vond, Paul Page, and The ‘Crew’. 

The family would like to give a special THANK YOU to Carol Lynn Fulce for bearing the burden of caretaker throughout Michael’s battle with cancer - her love and commitment were unwavering, in the words of Lynn “she was his ‘ride or die’ to the end.”
