Mildred Louise Bennett
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit return unto God who gave it.
Ecclesiastes 12:7.
We honor Mildred Louise Bennett in celebrating 100 years of her life. We commemorate you and your
achievements on this day, June 1, 2023, not to mourn you, but to celebrate your life and legacy.
Mildred Louise Bennett, born Mildred Louise Pryor on August 4, 1922, was the third child gifted to
the union of Mr. Robert and Mrs. Ruby Pryor. Mildred reunites with her loved ones that preceded her
in death. With open arms and a glad heart, she now rests with James Cornell Phelps Sr. and Otis
Bennett, daughter Minnie Louise Eiland, son John C. Phelps Sr.,
stepdaughter Diane Bennett, and brothers John Pryor and Robert Pryor Jr. As we embrace the
memories, they celebrate her receiving her wings.
Mildred retired from South Bend Water Works after 13 years. Mildred was an avid bowler and bowled
up to and into her nineties, often beating those much younger. She was recognized as a devoted
mother and Gran-Gran to all; serving her community and helping those less fortunate. Mildred’s
character speaks unprecedented volumes, dedicating her life and devotion to her family and friends.
Her Legacy will continue to be passed down through many generations. She leaves to cherish her
memories, three daughters; Gladys Marie Lester of Maple Heights, OH, Raemozelle Phelps of South
Bend, IN, and Ida Lupino Hennington of Slidell, LA, one son James Cornell Phelps, Jr. (Teresa) also
of South Bend, IN; one daughter-in-law Betty Phelps of Alabama, and a stepdaughter Yvonne Bennett
of Las Vegas, NV, along with generations of grand, great grand, and great great grandkids and a
host of family and friends.
Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4
