Mother Tennie Herron Obituary

Mother Tennie L. Herron, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, transitioned into the arms of the Lord on September 23, 2021. She was born to the union of Willie Bob and Canary (Anderson) Lusby on October 2, 1934, in Jackson, Tennessee.

Tennie married the love of her life, Robert E. Herron Sr. on April 4, 1954. Shortly after, they relocated to the South Bend-Mishawaka, Indiana area. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom, and caregiver to her vision-impaired mother-in-law. Later, she began working for Logan Industries, as well as the South Bend Community School Corporation where she retired after 29 years of service. When she was not working, she loved to travel, spend time with her family and friends, and most importantly, she loved to cook. Sunday meals were her specialty, and ALL were welcomed.

Tennie’s journey with the Lord started at Centerpoint Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee. In the early ‘60s, after moving to South Bend, Indiana, Robert and Tennie dedicated their lives to Christ together at Mount Zion COGIC under the leadership of Elder William Woods, Elder Milton Burton, and Elder James E. Herron Sr.

After the passing of Elder James E. Herron Sr., Elder Robert and Mother Tennie founded Revelation COGIC. As pastor and wife, they served for more than 31 years. Mother Herron worked in all departments in the church. Her most rewarding positions were in the youth and community ministries. Every year, she would buy clothing and school supplies for the children that attended Revelation and for the children in the community. She loved helping others.

Those surviving to cherish her precious memories are her husband of 67 years, Superintendent Robert E. Herron Sr.; eight childrenāŽ¼five sons: Robert (Pamela) Herron Jr., Larry Herron, David (Carla) Herron Sr. all of South Bend, Indiana; Dennis Herron of Blaine, Minnesota, Gary Herron of Westfield, Indiana; three daughters: Betty Herron, Deborah Ann Barr, and Patricia Herron, all of South Bend, Indiana; 32 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Alice Tuggles of Jackson, Tennessee and Barbara Estes of Louisville, Kentucky; and a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Lusby of Jackson, Tennessee.

Proceeding her in heaven are her parents; brothers: Theodore Lusby, John Lusby, Roscoe Lusby, Sherman Lusby, and Paul E. Lusby; and two sisters: Mary E. Moore and Annora Burgess.

Mother Tennie Herron will be immensely missed but will live on forever in our hearts.
