We are saddened to announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Nechole Smith. Born on December 27, 1970, in Oma, Mississippi, she was a beacon of strength and resilience. Nechole was a woman of indomitable spirit, who touched and uplifted many lives in her 52 years. She lived her life by the words of Maya Angelou, "I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it."
Nechole made her home in Anderson, Indiana, where she served her community as a correctional officer for six years. She was a pillar of strength and fairness, always upholding the highest standards of justice. Her dedication and commitment to her job were unparalleled, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and those she served.
Nechole's strength was matched by her compassion. She was known for her ability to connect with people, offering a listening ear and wise counsel to those in need. She was a woman who believed in second chances, embodying the quote, "Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future."
Nechole is survived by her loving children: Antwonette McDaniel, and a son Devin Smith who both were her pride and joy; seven grandchildren; five sisters: Lulla P. Jackson, Sheila Goss, Christy (Ralph) Smith, Roselyn Smith, and Sonya Tabron. Two brothers: Anthony and Michael Smith; along with a host of loving friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and Queenie Smith a brother Tommie Lee Smith Jr. and a niece De'Ashay Thompson. Nechole's vibrant spirit, courage, and love will forever be remembered by all who knew her. The void left by her passing is immeasurable, but the love and memories she shared with us will forever remain.
