Prince Legend Amir Higgins

Prince Legend Amir Higgins was born on November 13, 2021 in South Bend, Indiana to Marcus Dowdy and Dai`Jah Higgins. He was born with a rare condition known as Moebius Syndrome as well as other health complications. The challenges of his health never stopped him.

With the love of his family and their excellent care coupled with his medical treatment he never let it get him down. He was truly a fighter; a spirited and courageous little boy who loved to clap his hands and blow kisses. He loved to eat and if he saw someone with food he headed straight for their plate! His got excited when he saw his mom and dad. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family. His continuous excitement and love were clearly an indication that he was happy. He occasionally expressed dissatisfaction by placing his hands across his face; as funny as this cute little gesture was everyone clearly understood what it meant. 

Even though Legend was a toddler with health issues, he lived fully embracing each day with enthusiasm and joy. He was a typical toddler with a unique fondness of Mickey Mouse and he enjoyed play time with his brothers and sisters. In recent months he had started climbing up on chairs and couches. 

From birth Legend beat the odds and those odds were beaten because the Lord had a mission for him. He was an inspiring beacon of light teaching all of us to appreciate life’s simple pleasures. He was our tiny source of boundless joy that reminded us daily that life is too short to sweat the small stuff.    

On Monday, November 13, 2023 on Legend’s second birthday, he peacefully passed away at Beacon Memorial Children’s Hospital. His loving family was by his side.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his parents Marcus and Dai`Jah; his siblings,  Serenity Lott, Savannah Higgins, Dae`mon Williams, Tony Garcia, Brock Byrd, Brooklyn Poe, Brizal Poe, A`ryha Dowdy, Marcus Dowdy and King Dowdy;  his paternal grandparents Cornell Sr. and Terria L. Dowdy and Juanita and Walter Thompson; maternal grandparents, Terrika (Leonard Lax Sr.) Sims and Ivory (Ladonna S. Smith-Lyons) Sims Sr.;  maternal great grandparents, Amelia F. Wright; his paternal aunts and uncles, Cornell Dowdy Jr., Rocelia Brown, Malcolm Thompson, Rashan Thompson, Walter Thompson Jr., Nigea Dowdy, Justin Dowdy, and Salem and Alex Thompson; maternal aunts and uncles, Desiree (Rashad Harris) Sims, Shawntalia and Davarius Curry, Shante Jenkins, DeShana Sims, Avery Sims, Lavette (David) Purnell, Pamela Morgan, Ivory (Ty`China Jordan) Sims Jr.,  and Damon Wright; his Godparents, Jayla Flint and U`Lani Green, along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Those who greeted Legend in paradise are his maternal great grandparents Alfred C. Warren Sr., Emmanuel and Gloria Bonds; and his paternal uncles, Clinton Dowdy and Quintin Dowdy.

Legend’s life, though brief, was an amazing gift to us all. He left an incredible and memorable imprint on the hearts of his family and all who knew him. He indeed lived up to his name.
