Robert Shorter

Robert Edward Shorter, 66, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and the life of the party passed away at 6:12 pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2020

Robert was born to Idella (Manuel) Shorter and Weldon Howard Pope on December 25, 1953, in South Bend, Indiana. He was educated through the South Bend School Corporation. Robert was a life-long resident of the Northside. He worked for 20 years at Hi-Speed Carwash until the company went out of business.

Survivors left to cherish his memory includes 2 daughters: Treasa Renee Shorter of South Bend, Indiana and Brianne Vallejo of Sheridan, Wyoming. Three granddaughters: Aaliyah, Lillyian, and Melodi Vallejo of Sheridan, Wyoming; and one grandson, Tom (Hellen) Walker III of South Bend, Indiana. Four great-grandchildren: Nevaeh, Nelleha, Tom IV, and Jerry Walker. Twelve sisters: Shirley Jones, Sara Coleman, Cynthia and Amy Shorter, Darlene Diya, Marilyn Pope, Deborah Stuckey, and Kelly McKinney, all of South Bend, Indiana, and Jolanda Adams of Huntley, Illinois, Zina Sappington of Mansfield, Texas and Marie Shorter of Manchester, Connecticut. Seven brothers: Allen Dale Shorter, Brian Pope, Greg Mosbley and Donald Jamerson, all of South Bend, Indiana, Donald Shorter and Darrell Pope both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Craig Mosbley of Dallas, Texas and his baby brother, Kynard M. Shorter Sr. of Kansas City, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Special Friends: Mr. Frank and Mr. Jerome; one special cousin, Sylvester “Sly” Harrington.

He was preceded in death by his parents Idella (Manuel) Shorter and Weldon Howard Pope; his daughter, LaShonda R. Harris; two sisters: Karla Stevenson and Loretta Shorter; three brothers: Manuel Shorter Jr., Michael Shorter Sr., and Manuel “Dewitt” Shorter; one brother-in-law, Fred Jones; special cousin, Dennis Marbley Sr.
