Ronnie Eugene Perkins passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the age of 67. He lived in South Bend for over 20 years. He was born on December 15, 1954 in Decatur, IL.
At a young age, Ronnie accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. While growing up, he loved running track and caring for animals. After attending Eisenhower High School in Decatur, IL, Ronnie worked as an Engineer for over 15 years with Norfolk & Western Railway. Ronnie had alove for music that began as a youth when he was a part of the Perkins’ Family Trio, which consisted of his sisters (Linda and Gloria). Later in life, he became an accomplished professional percussionist with the ability to play the double bass drum set, a band leader, singer, and song-writer. In addition, Ronnie had a special love for dogs, restoring vehicles, racing cars and a tenacious love for life. Despite Ronnie’s multiple medical conditions, he was determined to make the most of life and surround himself with his family.
He is preceded in death by both his parents Ora Lee Blue and James Wesley Perkins; two nieces:Shamegieko Carlton, Fayette Carlton and two nephews: Tychius Derrickson and Keon Perkins.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, daughters Toma Romero (Chicago, IL), Tisha (Harry) Hawkins (Decatur, IL), Jothany Benson (Peoria, IL), Alea Perkins, Cameron Perkins, Essence Perkins, and son Rontrell Perkins all from South Bend, IN. A special grandson Caleb Benson, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Also, he is survived by three sisters: Linda (Jack) Derrickson (South Bend), Gloria Perkins (South Bend), LaVette (Calvin) Knox (Anna, TX), James Perkins (Berrien Center, MI), Mark (Margot) Perkins (Tucson, AZ), Jeremiah Perkins (Decatur, IL), Tim (Joyce) Perkins (Zion, IL), a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Perkins will be held on Tuesday August 2, 2022 at 1 P.M in the chapel of Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, IN 46601. Visitation will be held an hour to the service at 12 Noon. Pastor Tim Perkins will bring the word. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford’s Mortuary Inc. - South Bend.
