Rosie Woods Obituary

With profound respect for her life and the joy she spread around her, we announce the loss of Rosie L. Woods. Born in Rosedale, MS on July 13, 1938, Rosie's zest for life was infectious. She would often be found with her friends, a good cup of coffee and her beloved police scanner, hence the affectionate nickname, "Nosey Rosie".

Rosie was a dedicated laborer in the manufacturing industry, showcasing her strong work ethic and commitment through her hospitality role at a local hotel and at the assembly line at Hermaseal Manufacturing. Despite the challenges life threw her way, Rosie never ceased to chase her dreams, earning her GED from Sister Virginia School in Elkhart, Indiana. Rosie's love for life was also evident in her hobbies. She loved going to the casino, solving crossword puzzles, and most importantly, hosting family gatherings and backyard BBQs. Her front porch was the congregation spot for the family, filled with laughter, stories, and memories. One of her famous quotes, "Make sure you pray", reflects her faith and the importance she placed on family and unity.

Rosie leaves behind her loving family; sons Jerry Woods (Shadawn), John Lockett, and Charlie Lockett; daughter Linda (Nathaniel) Alexander III; brother Lloyd Johnson; sisters Celita Flowers, Shelia Woods, and Faye Woods; grandchildren Taiwan Dawkins Sr. (Nina Taylor), Saigon (Michelle) Dawkins, DayShawn Woods, Jarod Sims, Brandon Lockett, Jayda Lockett, Janice Smith, John Royster (Tiffany Bell), Stephanie Childs and Dwayne; great-grandchildren Taiwan Jr., Taijanique and Taiahanna Dawkins, Paul Harrison, Chaz Caldwell, Jaylon Davis and Darrell Byrd, Tayler and Tylan Jordan, Chase Charles and her favorite nephew Elbert "Trigger" Thompson. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memories. Rosie is preceded in death by her parents Gabe Sr. and Rosie (Bell) Woods, her daughter Beatrice Lockett, and siblings James Woods, Gabe Jr., Dorothy Johnson, and Celeste Williams.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist, 802 West Garfield Avenue, Elkhart, Indiana, followed by a celebration of Rosie's life at the same venue at 12:00 pm.

Rosie's life was a testament to her strength, love for her family, and her faith. Let us remember her as she was, a beacon of love, joy, and faith, and keep her memory alive in our hearts.
