Ruth O'Neal

Ruth O’Neal, 95, formerly of Bissell Street, South Bend, IN., passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at Trail point Village, South Bend, Indiana. Ruth was born to Hermon and Birdie Lee (Prude) Owens on March 22, 1925, in Pontotoc, Mississippi.

Ruth united in marriage to George O’Neal August 16, 1942, in MS., and coming from Chicago, Illinois, in 1944 they moved to South Bend, Indiana. She worked 10 years as a Nurses Aid for Memorial Hospital and also as a private duty Nurse. She formerly was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church in Elkhart, Indiana, where she organized the Nurses Guild. Her passions were sewing, leading souls to the Lord, praying and reading her Bible.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents: Hermon and Birdie Lee Owens; husband, George O’Neal; two sons: Richard George O’Neal and Michael Dean O’Neal; two brothers: Hermon Owens Jr., and Charles Stewart; three sisters: Martha Jane Wear, Daisey Pearl Goens, and Lois Davis.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include two granddaughters: Kimberly Marie Roldan and Tracey O’Neal; two sisters: Francie (Robert) Herrell and Lori McDonald (Wiley) Wear; two brothers: Rev. Lefate (Ora Lee) Owens and Joe Kelly Owens.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
