“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith: Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day: and not to me only, but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Shirley Elvada Warnell fondly known as “Tee” went peacefully to eternal rest on February 9, 2021, while surrounded by family. She was born to the union of William and Natalie Stein on May 9, 1928.
On February 15, 1964, she married Joseph “Mr. Joe” Warnell and together they raised three children. Shirley retired from Robertson’s Department Store but her love for children lead her to her most fulfilling job, a teacher’s aide at Perley Elementary School. There she bonded with and nurtured numerous students that still thank her to this day.
Shirley was an angel on earth. She looked after so many. She could always find odd jobs for guys in the neighborhood to earn money. Her generosity was unmatched. She had a heart as pure as gold. She served as a lifetime member of The Woman’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society of First A.M.E Zion Church. Her loving nature warmed the hearts of everyone around her. Some of her favorite past times were watching Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy, and Jeopardy.
She leaves to treasure her precious memories, her daughter, Shantel (Jaimes) Monroe; three grandchildren: Amber Easton, Jaimes Monroe Jr., and Alexus Monroe; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Stein; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends; with special acknowledgment to Martha Jones and Elaine Boswell.
Shirley was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Joseph Warnell; a daughter, Stephanie Morgan; a son, Xavier Warnell; two sisters: Katherine Rachels and Dora Woodford; three brothers: William, Leroy, and Leland Stein.
The family of Shirley would like to give special thanks to Center For Hospice Care for their outstanding service and support.
