Superintendent Ebenezer Spencer Obituary

Superintendent Ebenezer Spencer was born October 21, 1938, to the union of Ebenezer and Leoma Spencer in Butler, Arkansas. He was one of twelve children. Superintendent Spencer was called to the ministry as early as age 8 years old. He was introduced to holiness in 1955 under the leadership of the late Pastor J. Harrington. He attended the Metropolitan Bible Institute in Detroit, MI where he was instructed by the late Superintendent Whitehead from 1961-1962. Superintendent Spencer's learning continued at the International Bible Institute & Seminary in Orlando, FL. On January 24, 1987, He graduated and received his Professional Diploma and Bible Teacher's Credentials.

Superintendent Ebenezer Spencer met the love of his life, Evangelist Missionary Veronica Oliver in 1956 and were later joined in holy matrimony on April 17, 1959. They were blessed with 5 wonderful children. Superintendent Spencer accepted the calling of the ministry and became an Ordained Elder in the Church of God in Christ, Inc. Through the call of God and the blessing of his pastor, Superintendent Spencer started his first mission in South Haven, MI in 1963 in the home of Sister Ferguson. The mission quickly outgrew Sister Ferguson's home which led them to a building on M- 43. Their time there was short due to a devastating fire.

Superintendent was led by the Lord to start a work in South Bend, IN, moving to several buildings until the Lord blessed the congregation with a large furnished Church with a parish attached. He named the church Holy Temple COGIC. The Lord's presence was great, and many miracles, signs, and wonders were wrought. Superintendent Spencer had a special gift of casting out devils, which caused people to receive true deliverance and freedom. He was appointed as Superintendent over District 27 under the leadership of the late Bishop C. J. Johnson, of the Historic First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Michigan, Northeast. He remained there until the Lord called him to come back to Michigan. Upon his return, he pastored two more churches.

In 1982, Superintendent Spencer moved the church to Benton Harbor on Territorial Road. He joined the Michigan North Central Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction where he was appointed Superintendent and established the Lively Stone District. While in Benton Harbor, the Lord richly blessed the ministry to outgrew all of its buildings. It was during this time that Superintendent desired in his heart to purchase a new church home for the congregation.

In 2016, the Lord worked a miracle and brought Jesus Lives Here full circle. God led Superintendent Spencer, back to the place where he started, South Haven, MI. God blessed them to secure a new church edifice, where the ministry has continued to thrive. A few years into the new church, his wife, Evangelist Veronica Spencer, went home to be with the Lord. He later remarried Mother Clairetha Hill and gained bonus children.
Outside of pastoring and establishing churches, Superintendent Ebenezer Spencer was appointed as a National Evangelist in the Church of God in Christ. He often traveled across the United States running revivals and crusades. He may have been a short statured man, but he had the power of God and the working of the Spiritual Gifts behind him. His wife, Evangelist Veronica Spencer, and their children would accompany him during many of his ministry assignments.

Superintendent Ebenezer Spencer will be remembered for the time he spent teaching, mentoring, and training his spiritual sons and daughters in ministry and evangelism. Superintendent Spencer was more than a leader-he was an Apostolic Ambassador in the earth, a vessel chosen by God to carry the voice of Heaven and proclaim the unchanging truth of the Gospel. With great authority and unwavering commitment, he stood as a prophetic voice, echoing the heart of God to His people and calling generations to righteousness, holiness, and unwavering faith. He understood the weight of his calling and embraced it with humility, dedication, and an unshakable love for the Kingdom of God.

As a true soldier of the Lord, Superintendent Spencer fought the good fight with endurance, clothed in the full armor of God, wielding the sword of the Spirit, and standing firm in the power of prayer. He labored tirelessly, not for earthly recognition, but for the advancement of God's Kingdom. His mission was clear—to build, to equip, to intercede, and to lead God's people into a deeper relationship with their Creator. His words carried the anointing, his hands ministered healing, and his heart remained
ever in tune with the will of the Father.
